Convicted con artist Anna Delvey has addressed a social media comment about her ankle monitor.
The Dancing With the Stars contestant—who is currently competing on season 33—took to Instagram to share a video of herself posing in front of the camera with her ankle monitor in clear view.
"DC," Delvey, whose real name is Anna Sorokin, captioned the clip.
In the comments, Instagram user @filmgirlx_ wrote: "Omg her ankle bracelet is HUUGE," to which Delvey replied: "@filmgirlx_ it's charging."
In an email to Newsweek, Delvey revealed further details about her ankle monitor, noting she charges it "once a day for about 60-90min."
The "monitor comes with a station that's plugged in at my residence, and a slide-on charger," she said.
In 2017, Delvey was arrested for posing as a German heiress and stealing more than $200,000 from banks, hotels and more. In 2019, she was found guilty of eight theft-related charges and sentenced to four to 12 years in state prison, ordered to pay about $199,000 in restitution and fined $24,000.
"The thing is, I'm not sorry," she told The New York Times one day after her sentencing. "I'd be lying to you and to everyone else and to myself if I said I was sorry for anything. I regret the way I went about certain things."
Delvey was released from prison in February 2021 after serving nearly four years. In March that same year, Russian-born Delvey was taken into custody by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for overstaying her visa. She was released from ICE in 2022 and is currently on house arrest.
Her bio on the ABC press release states: "Some view her as a cunning scam artist, while others see her as a charismatic and ambitious entrepreneur who took advantage of New York City's social elite in an effort to open a prestigious art studio."
The bio continues: "Her case has also sparked discussions about wealth, privilege and social climbing in modern society. Her story continues to captivate the public's imagination."
In an interview with the Associated Press after the season 33 premiere of Dancing With the Stars, Delvey spoke out about her ankle monitor.
"It's actually not a big issue at all," she told the outlet. "It's pretty light, and I asked them to make it tight so it doesn't dangle. So it's not so bad."
Her partner, DWTS pro Ezra Sosa, added: "It's the real star of the show, let's be honest here."
"I think it's kind of funny how people like—it's not like an ankle weight," he continued. "It's not like 20 pounds. It's like literally less than a pound and it's not a big deal."
Delvey has been the target of backlash this season, but Sosa defended her in a message posted to his TikTok on Monday after she was found crying in the bathroom over hurtful online comments.
"I know what she did was really controversial and was not right, and I can never justify that for her and for anyone in her life," he shared. "It's really hard for me because this person that I truly am just falling in love with every day in rehearsal, isn't the person that everyone sees in the media. No one deserves the amount of hate that she's getting right now. She deserves a second chance."
